It obviously affected Amir in some way because for years after he witnessed Hassan being raped, Amir suffered from insomnia and had nightmares about Hassan being raped. Amir constantly questioned his relationship with Hassan and wondered if he could consider himself a true friend to Hassan after he did nothing to stop Hassan from being raped. Amir also seems to regret that he didn't help Hassan because he begins raccounting all the times that Hassan served and acted loyal to him.
This most definitely affected Amir, both in his adolescence and adult life. He was plagued with guilt for most of his life because he didn't tell Baba, Ali or anyone what he saw. Amir regrets his choice not to say what he witnessed, or how he was the one who put the money under Hassan's matress. If he would have helped Hassan, or confessed to what he saw, his whole life would have been completely different, and it's very likely that Hassan and his wife would have still been alive.
This deffinately has affected Amir. He has felt an extreme amount of guilt after witnessing that incident and not doing anything about it. It also has changed the way he looks at himself and Hassan. He know sees how much Hassan does for him and what extent he will go to to please him. Amir also knows sees himslef as more of a coward and when he is an adult he hates himself for not doing anything because if he did something it could have changed the way life went for Ali and Hassan. This also shows how selfish Amir was and how badly he wanted Baba to be proud of him and respect him and show him affection as a son. The guilt Amir feels effects him his entire life.

Yes this has definitely affected Amir throughout his whole life. It ruined his friendship with Hassan and caused them to move out. It also caused Amir to feel like he was not a loyal friend. Also, this makes him obligated to adopt Sohrab because Amir feels like he has to do this one thing for Hassan to make up for his guilt.

After Amir witnessed Hassan being raped, he was affected. I think that if Amir had said anything he would have been looked down upon or shamed in so many ways. He would have to deal with Hassan rape publicly, even if it didn't leave the wall of his house Baba would known and for Amir that would be the equivalent of the whole world knowing. Amir knew it was better to feel awful on the inside then have his father know what Amir had let happened to Hassan, Amir choose not to tell anyone and by doing so created inner demons that he would have to deal with for the rest of his life.
Did Amir thin he was taking the "easy" way out by not telling anyone and in turn made it worst on himself?
or Maybe it was a way to cope with his guilt?
(He created those demons to compensate for the guilt he felt for letting Hassan be raped.)
Just some thoughts

Amir witnessing Hassan's rape has, in my opinion, affected Amir in many ways. I think that because Amir didn't stand up for Hassan he always had that guilt, and I think that if Amir had stood up for Hassan that day, they would have been even better "fiends" and they probably would've found out about their relation together.

Clearly, Amir witnessing Hassan's rape has had a huge affect on Amir. It makes amir feel constantly awkward and uncomfortable around Hassan afterwards. Eventually Amir can't even bare to have Hassan around and gets him and Ali to leave. There is no question that Amir witnessing Hassan's rape made things for Amir completyely different.
Witnessing Hassan's rape and not reporting it has definitely affected Amir. Amir and Hassan had been best friends for years, but kept their distance after the incident. Due to his guilt, Amir remained an insomniac for many years. Amir spent most of his life from then on feeling sorry for keeping Hassan's rape a secret. He yearned to redeem himself and planned to do so by finding Sohrab, Hassan's son, and taking care of him after he finds out that Hassan had been killed. The fact that Amir only talked about Hassan's rape and the way it destroyed their relationship when it was absolutely necessary shows Amir's cowardice.
well it definatly affected him, because it changed his entire life. he probably wouldn't have tried to get Ali and Hassan out of his house, and they would have come with him(Baba and Amir) to America. the only reason he really tries to get Sohrab back is because of the guilt of not defending Hassan and because he thinks it's a form of atonement.
Amir's witness of Hassan's rape deffinatley affected Amir. Not only did it ruin his "friendship" with Hassan but it also left him feeling guilty and weak. His relationships with people and his attitude towards himself were severly altered due to what he had seen and done nothing to stop.

Witnessing Hassans rape had an obvious affect on Amir. It had such a large impact on his "friendship" with Hassan because is guilt got to him so much. He even made it look like Hassan had stolen his birthday presents, just so he would leave and no longer have to live with him. The rape also affected Amir's sleeping habits because at night his guilt would eat away at him. It also affected him into his adult years because the reason that he felt it was his duty to rescue Sohrab was because he had to redeem himself and he couldn't help but think Hassan being murdered in the first place was a direct result of him.

omg yes it made a huge impact on amir's life. he spent his whole childhood and adult life trying to bury the past. for example, amir became more cruel towards hassan, and even framed hassan. amir spent his wholde life regretting the past, and living as a sinner. no one knew about the truth, which led to amir lying to both his wife, and father. in conclusion, yes the rapping scene effected amir's life because he spent the rest of his life trying to redeem himself, and become a good man again.

I think Amir learned alot from Hassan's rape. The biggest thing though, was he learned that he was a huge coward. He didnt even attempt to help Hassan out in fear of Assef. He also learns how Hazaras are as low as low can get in the social class. Amir definetly learned alot from that experience.
KOBE
Although the witnessing and concealing of Hassan's rape did affect Amir for years to come, it was not the only negative experience of his that led to his guilt. Yes, hiding the rape from Baba and Ali made him feel guilty, but so did the whole idea of Hassan being more of a servant than a friend. I think Amir had a constant struggle with Hassan's relationship to him. He wanted to be his friend, but also accepted Hassan's place as a lower Hazara and him a Pashtun. The rape of Hassan was only a part of this conflict, because he did justify keeping it a secret with the fact that Hassan was "just a hazara".
So, I think that Assef could even be considered a symbol for the Pashtun part of Amir; constantly taking advantage of Hassan. It is only when Amir returns and saves Sohrab that he defeats his Pashtun identity. This is why, upon returning to the US, he tells the general not to refer to Sohrab as a Hazara.
Witnessing Hassan's rape definatley had a huge impact on Amir. Not only does it ruin Hassan and Amir's "freindship", but it causes for Amir to feel guilt and shame. Even after moving to America, these feelings ultimately alter Amir's actions. For instance, towards the end of the book, Amir accepts Rahim Khan's wish for him to find Sohrab. His guilt for what he did to Hassan, drove him to save Sohrab and eventually adopt him as his own son. Therefore, i believe by witnessing the drastic event, despite all the bad that came from it; it led Amir to be a better person in his hope for redemption.
The witness of Hassan's rape had a great affect on Amir. He felt guilty his whole life because he did not tell anybody about what he saw. Also it ruined his friendship with Hassan and it eventually caused him to move out.

This event has had effects not only on Amir's childhood, but follows him into his adult life. As a child, his cowardice had him witness this scene without doing anything, and then burdened him with painful guilt. This guilt ultimately followed exiled Hassan and Ali. As Amir matured, he still couldn't stop thinking about all the suffering he put Hassan through, and why he had been such a coward. All of this personal suffering ultimately leads to him returning to Afghanistan, where he takes action to atone for all the wrongs he has commited.
BRO
Well, it is pretty obvious that it affected Amir's life. It destroyed his relationship with Hassan, and left him with guilt to deal with for the rest of his life. Many things could have changed had the situation not occured or had Amir acted differently to prevent Hassan from being raped.
Amir witnessing Hassan's rape has definitely affected Amir. He is still young when he sees it and is forced to go through his whole life with that picture of the alley in the back of his mind. Throughout the whole novel, Amir always refers back to that time. He is so guilty that he betrayed his childhood friend like that. A good example of his regret is the night Amir marries Soraya and she opens up to Amir and confesses her sin. Amir says that he is so jealous of her strength and ability to admit her deepest sin. It makes him think of what he has done to Hassan. He wishes he could admit what he has done, but it pains him too much. Amir is forced to feel guilt again when he returns to Afghanistan to save Hassan's son, Sohrab.
