"Pods" in class

So... today was an interesting experiment using both cell phones and "pods". What did you think? You can be honest about what you liked and didn't like. Your comments will help me to further refine how we use technology in class. If you can be as specific as you can (even something like the keyboard) it would help me tremendously! Make sure to sign your name so I can give you credit for responding....

Hi. This is Charles. I just checked my email and it said I had to post a comment on this blog or something. So here it is. Hooray

Well yes...you should post a comment, but it should be about what we did in class today...so you're ahead of the curve!! Come back later and let us know what you thought of the work you did in class with the iPod touches.

Hello! This is Katie Iwagami...
I enjoyed using the iPod Touches today. It was an interesting alternative to "writing" Notes, and now we get to text Notes. I think that it would be a good idea if each student could receive their own iPod touches. I'm still learning to text on them but i will improve. Overall, I thought it was a fun class. I believe that it will help us improve our technology skills, and limit the amount of paper we use in the school. So thank you Mrs. Lindell for the great idea of using iPod touches in class!!

Hey this is Graziella from period 6... I really liked using the ipods and phones in class. It added some excitement to the notes... My typing speed needs to improve, but I just need to get used to the keyboard. I liked using the ipods a lot better than just writing the notes down in our notebook and I think it's really cool that we can email ourselves the notes. We should continue using the ipods throughout the year. Great idea.

Hi its Sophie Tahiraj. I think it is interesting that we use the iPods in class. I think it's a good experience especially because I am not good with technological things like those iPods. But it's fun using them too and I like the method of adding everyone's noted together by using them. =)

Sounds pretty good so far...were there any negative comments out there? not that I want any of course!!

Hello it's Hannah Schumacher. Using the iPod touches provided a fun new spin on a typical English class. I agree with the comments above, typing on the iPods can be pretty difficult, especially in the beginning. I look forward to seeing how we use the iPod Touches in the future.

It's Nick Perrone (I just included my name because everyone else did and I didn't wanna feel left out). I thought that using the ipods in class was a great way to make us do work without us actually thinking we're doing work, and when saying that I literally mean it. The ipods are a fun way to "spice" up the class and give it an edge above the other classes we take. I personally liked it and it seems like everyone else did as well.

Hi, Nick D. here from period 2. Although using the iPod and our phones to do work in class is definitely new, I think it's a great idea. It can probably only get better as the year goes on.

Maureen Lindell said...

I'm going to find out if we can get the update on those units so you can turn them on the side and use the larger keypad... I'll see if that works this week..

Abby said...

Hi! It's Abby from period two! I thought using the iTouches (is that how is should be pluralized?) was fun today, very new. Of course it was mine that ended up refusing to work in the end, but I'm sure that wont happen too many times again. I'm kinda slow at typing with the iTouch. Go saving paper! One class at a time, guys. :)

Hey, its Fred S. The work I did on the ipod touches was an experience, I never thought I'd do something like that. Typing on the ipods is kinda hard at first, but I got the hang of it towards the end of the period. It saves paper and we were all able to pool our notes together so we can print it out. Overall, pretty good.

Bianca said...

HI! It's Bianca and I thought that using the ipods today in class was something new and exciting for all of us. It's a little tricky to type on the ipods but we'll get the hang of it. Sending notes and emails might be difficult when they don't go through but other than that I think it's a great idea!

LINDA!!! said...

Hey people! This is Linda Cartolano! I actually really enjoyed using the iPod touches today, even though I had a lot of issues texting on it because the keypad was kind of small and sometimes a little too responsive. I kind of got annoyed whenever I tried to abbreviate Snow Flower by typing "SF" because the iPod "corrected" SF and made it an "if". Besides that, I really liked using the pods. I think it's an excellent idea because we're saving paper and going green, and it's also awesome to use this new technology in class. See you guys tomorrow!

hey it is kristin
i thoiught that class was really fun today. i like using the i-touches because i think that it is more interesting than taking notes. using the i-touches are fun and i take notes a lot easier and faster using it. and i agree with bianca theat it is a little hard to use but i am all sure we will get used to it shortly and before you know it we will be professional i-touch typers....hahahha
see you all in school tomorow =)

Hi, Tis I, Kevin Winnie
The Ipods were cool and new. Class is now more interesting because we use new, cooler technology that can relate to the minds of adolescants. Using the ipods, made it easier to write notes and have fun at the same time. I think that more classes should incorporate Ipods into their curriculm.

Dictator of the World said...

Hey this is Sarah Doyle from period 2. I thought using the "pods" was pretty new and exciting. They have a couple of kinks in them like the automatic spell check and such and how the keyboard can't be moved horizontally. BUt otherwise it was a lot of fun.

Jacob said...

Hey, this is Jacob. I think using the iPod touch was a lot of fun. It was a lot easier to use than I thought it would be. And I think combining everyone's notes is a really good idea!

Unknown said...

Hi, It's Madeline from second period. I think the iPod idea is great, it incorporates what we do in the "outside world" into the classroom. It is also time efficient and eco-friendly which I defiantly approve of. The one thing I'm worried about is how using the pods will affect my grades. I am a very visual learner, not so much the reading learner (i.e. we have to go back and look through all the notes instead of just writing them ourselves). They keypads also are terrible and annoying. Overall I think its a great idea but it will be interesting on how this will work out in the end.

Jessica said...

Hi, this is Jessica from period 2.
I liked using the iPod touches today! Although it's sorta hard to type on the touches cause the keyboard was small, overall, its fun! It makes english class more enjoyable, and it saves lots of paper. Sometimes it can get a bit frustrating cause the emails don't always go through. Other than that, I think it's a great idea.

Annelisa said...

Hey! It's Annelisa. Using the ipod touches today were really fun! They make English class entertaining. I hope we can use them for the rest of the year The only negative I have is that it's hard to type on them.

Mister Doctor Professor Brian said...

Hey its Brian McGovern.. I agree with what people are saying. The iPod idea I think works very well in terms of taking down notes in class. Good Stuff.

Sam :) said...

Oh Hey! It sam :)
So i love the i touches. I think it was so smart and creative of mrs lindell to get these for her english classes because it gives me something to look forward to in my day. the one thing i dont like about the i touches are the size of the buttons on the key pads. I have fat fingers and they just dont hit the right key sometimes. lol but generally i love the i touches. thanks mrs lindell!

While using the iTouches was fun, I personally prefer to take notes on paper. In my opinion, notes written in a notebook are more organized and easier to study from. The keyboard was also tricky to type on. One of the things I did like about the iTouch is that it was fun to use and it was easy to email notes to others. As I get more accustomed to it, I probably will enjoy using it more.

Hey everyone this is Ricky from period 2. I thought the iPods were a good idea and an exciting way to teach the class. I do not have an iPod so it was a little difficult for me at first but I think I am getting the hang of it.

Maryloo ! said...

Hiii. This is Mary Lu from period 6. I pretty much agree with everyone else about the ipods. Typing notes instead of just copying them down makes class more interesting. The automatic spell-check is kind of annoying, but typing on the ipods is pretty easy & fun otherwise. :D
(For some reason my internet is failing, so if this gets posted like three times, sorry!)

Jiwon said...

Hi! This is Jiwon from period 6. I think that using the iTouch was really fun and something new for me. We never used an iTouch for taking notes in other classes so it was exicting and I hope to improve on typing on the touch screen.

Maureen Lindell said...

OK...seems like one thing (besides the weak keypad) is the fact that some people prefer to have notes written. Perhaps we can have additional options for those who are more visual. For example, we can have some people take the notes by hand and then we can upload pictures of the writing... what do you think?

BCimons19 said...

i dindt like that the keyboard couldnt be turned horizontally. it made it difficult to type

Unknown said...

I enjoy the polls. I enjoy the usage of technology. It creates a more chill environment. The most negative point I can think of is the fact that typing on the iphones can be time consuming. Oh And this is Anish.

Hi it's Laura. I liked using the iTouches but I think it is easier to study from notes that are right in my notebook. It is fun to use as a change from our regular class and it is an interesting idea.

\m/Chilson\m/ said...

i dont know if someone said this already because i dint read all the comments, but i think the only bad part with using the ipods is the small size of the keysboard.

victoriaWAWENchin said...

Hello, this is Victoria! Using the iPod touches were enjoyable, though I do agree that the typing was a bit annoying. It's cool to be able to use technology in class, but if we didn't use it, I wouldn't really mind; I sorta actually enjoy taking notes by hand!

Brooke said...

Hey it's Brooke. I think using the itouches is very complicated. There is a lot of emailing and texting going on and it's hard to keep track of what needs to be done. I like the idea of using the itouches.

Mister Doctor Professor Brian said...

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.. But, I think the iPods will just take a little time to get used to and the difficulties may be sorted out as people become more used to them.

emma! :) said...

hey is emma fetonti!this is my second time writing this because i don't know it got deleted somehow when i had to set up an account...great. but anyway, i really liked using the ipods during class today. it was something new and different. i liked how we were able to type the notes and then email them to ourselves right away. i surprised myself with how fast i typed on the keyboard, so that's a plus. i also like how we each got different topics and then were able to combine them all at the end. i think that the more we use the ipods, the better well get at them.

Mike.. said...

Hey, this is Michael from second period. I thought using the iTouches was pretty cool, we students are molded to see anything other than typical notes to be interesting and exciting. Even if the keyboards are still troublesome. (still annoying with 2 years of practice.) So uh, yay for technology.

I thought that the use of iPod touches in class was educational on two levels. Not only did using the iPod touches help me learn about the book, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, but I was also able to learn a lot about technology. I never knew that I could get onto the internet using the iPod touches. The only thing that I did not like was the touch keyboard. I just can't get the hang of it!

Liz j said...

Hey its Liz from second period. I thought using the itouches in class and each summarizing one chapter was good because it meant recieving everyones input and doing less work individually, and im all for that. :)

Unknown said...

Hey its Nick Widmaier from period 2
I enjoyed using the ipods today in class. I think they were a more fun way to stay involved with the class, without taking regular notes. True, the keyboard was small, but it wasn't that bad. I also like the fact that you can use them through email to receive info from other people, such as in the outlines today. That is something you would definitely not be able to do without the ipods, and by doing this, you can stil get good notes to look at, but not do as much work.

The Emperor said...

Dave here. I liked how using the pods saved paper, however this new wave of modern technology in the classrooms is becoming overwhelming. But I agree with the Chilsonator that the keyboards are too small to type on with my fat fingers. I'm looking forward to when we get to eventually put music on the pods, for poetry I think. That should be fun.

End transmission.

Brandon said...

Hey this is Brandon. I thought that using the ipods was interesting, but it definitely would be better if everyone in the class could use their own. I think I prefer to write notes down on paper, but for quizzes and "Do Nows" this is great to use.

Unknown said...

Wooooooooooooooosh.
Phil here, leaving a late night comment.
The iTouches were...interesting.
They spiced up the class a bit more, but ITouches aren't exactly designed for classes to take notes in. I prefer the good old pen and paper note taking.

The poll with your phone idea is pretty fun, too bad people use up the alloted responses too quickly. >_>

That's pretty much it. :u

Unknown said...

Hi, This is Kinjal. I think using the i pods to take notes is a great alternative to taking notes with pen and paper. It also makes the class more fun( in general). It also saves us the trouble of having to copy the notes from someone else if we are absent.

Doctor Watson said...

Okay here I am again. In terms of the ipods, I think they definitely have something to add to the education experience. However, I think we must all be wary of allowing the school system to become controlled by private companies like Apple. If you've read the book "Feed" you'll understand the kind of situation I'm afraid of. If we're not careful, we may soon have a math class in which the teacher announces the lesson sponsored by Pepsi at the start of every class.

Doctor Watson said...

And uh sorry about kinda misrepresenting the situation here. I just felt like writing something other than, "The iPods is coolLOL."

Doctor Watson said...

Plus I used the words "class" and "situation" twice. Forgive my lack of variety, mysterious reader who actually cares about the content of my comment.
