We Survived the First Day of School

Hello Everyone...

So this is the first post to our blog this year. Since most of you are new to blogging I thought I would do the first posting myself and have you all respond to it at school. As the new school year begins, I find myself thinking about how I can make this year a good one for you and for me. What do you think we should be doing differently this year than you did last year? What would you like to do in class (read, do as a project, discuss as a topic) that you haven't had a chance to do before? Are there any books, poems, short stories, etc that you would like to try? Do me a favor and make a comment to this blog so I can know what you are thinking!

See you in school!

Mrs. Lindell

(sorry about the first one!)

I'm usually fine with the normal curriculum. I've read Jane Eyre and The Strange Tale Of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde before, but I enjoyed them so I don't mind doing them again. Looking forward to second period this year!

Google tells me that I can use some HTML tags, such as < b >, < i >, < a >. Seeing as I am an experienced blogger, I know what all of these tags do. Anyway, I think that English should be fine the way its been set up before. But, it is an interesting twist to have a class blog and I look forward to it.

I enjoy reading suspenseful, sad, emotional, or really any type of novel in english, and I like discussing them in class too. I am looking forward to reading and expanding my thoughts and ideas on the novels with the class. This class looks like it will be fun and I'm eager to see what will happen as the year goes on.

I am looking forward to this year in english. I enjoyed reading The Kite Runner last year and over the summer I read A Thousand Splenidid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and also Ninteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I like those kinds of books because they are somewhat challenging and prepare me for experiences that I may be involved in in the future. However, I'm sure all the books we read this year will be interesting.

English has started off well and I'm looking forward to reading different books this year. Whenever I read though, I like to talk about the books in class so I can make sure I'm understanding what I'm reading, because last year some of the books were hard to understand. I also agree that the blog is awesome. =)

Hi! Basically like everyone said this english class has started off great so far. I actually saw the movie Kite Runner during the summer, so I thought that maybe after we finish reading the book, we can watch the movie. I think everyone would really enjoy that. Can't wait to see what's going to happen during the rest of the year!

I'm enjoying the blog idea, it's fun to see what everyone else is thinking. I personally have a wide variety of genre interests, but I really enjoy fantasy books, a taste of worlds we don't know, such as Twilight and Harry Potter, and Romances and tragedies like Jane Eyre also catch my attention. I just finished reading "The Birthmark" for homework, which I really enjoyed, so I'm looking forward to what's in store for the rest of this year!

English looks like it's going to be good this year. There are a lot of interesting looking books on our list, so that's going be fun. I think it'd be really beneficial for us if we discussed the books well in class so we understand them, but not over analyze them. That kind of makes the books boring. This blog idea is really great, so I'm excited for english this year!

I'm blogging the next day...but I made it! Better late than never I guess.
Jane Eyre is great so far, and I love the descriptive language she uses, in every aspect of the story. I think this school year will be a good one :)

I don't have very high expectations for english class this year. But that's only so I am not disappointed, and paradoxical as it may sound I expect to be surprised. Yet, if I learned anything from summer reading it is that in the hands of people like Faulkner and Joyce the
English language can be a weapon that inflicts its victims with a massive headache.

This is the better twin! haha. Anyway, i especially appreciate the extensive vocabulary review during class and superb analysis of the book, as it is very difficult; at a much higher level, like a small child learning from a college professor.
Haha. I'm Charlotte Bronte now! You got me doing it! AHH!

This year I would like to do reading in class for some of the more challenging books. Last year we read and discussed in class A Tale of Two Cities and it helped me tremendously because sometimes I would have no clue what was going on until Ms. Rodrigue would explain it to us. Also, I'm glad you are going to coincide some of the books with what we are doing in U.S. History. This will help us get a better grasp on the different time periods.

i just finished reading chapter nine, and it was really sad. helen was really brave and had a stong and true heart. she reminded me of bailey from the sisterhood of the traveling pants book. i was really touched by that scene, and struck when i read about jane waking up embracing her deceased friend.
